Summary

Filo is a virtual event platform with great use cases for companies who are looking to host internal events such as workshops, deal reviews, training, QBRs, sales kick-off events, onboardings, and for people who manage distributed teams.

Since its inception, Filo has been able to create a virtual event platform that smartly integrates with existing marketing technologies.

When first diving into the platform, I was impressed by the ease of configuring events. I do have a lot of experience with virtual event platforms. Currently, Filo doesn’t have an in-app onboarding experience which would be useful for people who are new to organize virtual events.

My main use case for using Filo would be to host the aforementioned event types such as workshops. Especially in tech companies, workshops are a great tool to accelerate a sales cycle. By using Filo, you can take the customer experience of people who participate in workshops to the next level.

Even though Filo offers a wide range of MarTech integrations, I’d like to see this further develop so it’s easier to integrate with marketing automation platforms such as Marketo or Hubspot.

Through the integration with Zoom, attending breakout sessions is a smooth technical experience.
You can brand the platform and custom configure it according to your needs.
On the Filo platform, you can host live meetings, recorded sessions or livestreams. This allows you to create a persistent space for content with a variety of formats.
You can add tiles or widgets to your event that embed resources such as agendas, documents, slides, polls, or several other tools. This is ideal as people will not have to leave the virtual event platform.
As breakout sessions take place through Zoom, there are plenty of hybrid event capabilities.
Integrates with 25 other tools such as Google Drive.
There is no integration yet with marketing automation tools such as Marketo or Hubspot.
Some companies restrict the usage of Zoom. This will make it cumbersome for some attendees to participate. There is a workaround solution for people with restricted Zoom access.
Attendees can’t create their own agenda as there are no scheduling features.
You can’t add custom fields to the registration forms and people have to be imported into Filo manually.

Filo, founded in 2020, is a virtual event platform that is purpose-built for collaborative events such as workshops, meetings, and internal events. Filo directly integrates Zoom, a market-leading video conferencing platform. This allows for collaborative events with high quality and video quality by using software that many people are familiar with already.

What is Filo used for?

Many event organizers use Filo to host internal events such as sales and marketing kick-offs, Quarterly Business Reviews (QBRs), mid-year kick-offs, and workshops.

Marketing departments are also able to organize lead generation events that rely heavily on networking and collaboration, which makes it a suitable platform for B2B organizations.

How much does Filo cost?

Filo has a pricing model based on the number of attendees as well as the level of support you need for your event.  Support services range from strategy consultations to set up and event design, to live day-of support.

Is Filo worth it?

As a manager of a distributed marketing team, I believe that Filo is worth the investment as it helps with internal relationship building. At the end of the day, this makes my marketing team more effective.

A campus on Filo is essentially the domain of a customer. Each customer will get a Campus and on that Campus, they can create Floors, Rooms, and Tiles. The Campus is your virtual event venue that you can fully customize for your virtual events.

What is a Floor on Filo?

Floors on Filo are customizable spaces in which you can add Rooms. Many event organizers will have a certain theme for a floor. Inside that floor, there will be rooms in which people can collaborate or meet.

Examples of dedicated floors are:

  • Sponsor booths;
  • Networking areas;
  • and themed floors such as design sprints.

What are Rooms on Filo?

Rooms on Filo are spaces on Floors that people can enter. Inside Rooms, event organizers can add Tiles. Inside Rooms, you can add videos, resources, and you can set up networking spaces that people can join through Zoom.

What are Tiles on Filo?

Tiles are widgets that you can add to Rooms and Floors on Filo. Tiles are essentially the components that you use to build Rooms and Floors. You can think of it as a whiteboard, chairs, tables, and magazines in a normal room.

How long does it take to set up a basic event on Filo?

When testing a sample event, it took approximately half an hour to set up a basic event on Filo. This included adding 3 Floors with 3 Rooms on each Floor.

Below you will find the breakdown of the various configuration steps we’ve completed when setting up a basic virtual event on Filo.

How does Filo tackle attendees who can’t use Zoom?

Some companies restrict the usage of Zoom due to company policies. People dealing with such policies can enjoy Filo events by using the browser version of Zoom rather than the app. Alternatively, people can dial in but will miss features such as being able to see and share the screen.

A third option is Filo can link to calls in Microsoft Teams or other services, however, some of the more advanced features (like seeing who is on the meeting) are not available.

Do you need a Zoom license to use Filo?

You do not need a Zoom license to host events on Filo. When creating a Zoom meeting tile, you can decide to use your company's Zoom license, or Zoom licenses provided by Filo.

Enterprise organizations will prefer to use their own license, but for smaller businesses, it’s useful to be able to use Filo’s licenses.

However, there are some caveats to using the Zoom license of Filo.

  1. You can either use the free Zoom license with video calls limited to 40 minutes,
  2. Or you can use the upgraded license but Filo will charge you with the imposed costs (if choosing to use licenses provided by Filo).
Do I need to pay extra to use the Filo Zoom license?

Yes, if you use the upgraded Zoom license from Filo, then they will charge you with incurred costs.

Can I add more user roles on Filo?

Yes, it is possible to add more user roles to your events on Filo. User roles can be used to restrict access to certain floors, rooms, and tiles.

To add more user roles, click on your event icon on the top left corner, then click on the gear icon. Proceed by navigating to “Roles.

Can you send notifications to the entire audience on Filo?

Yes, as an admin you can broadcast notifications to the entire campus on your Filo events. Simply click on the 3 dots next to your event name and click on “Make an Announcement”.

Can I create event registration pages on Filo?

Yes, it is possible to create basic event registration pages for your events on Filo. You can add basic details such as your event name and a description.

Can I edit the forms on the registration page on Filo?

No, you can’t edit the fields on the registration form. Therefore, it’s best to create a form on your website and then transfer the registrations over to the Filo platform.

Can I bulk upload registrations to Filo?

Yes, you can download a member list template in which you can include the email addresses of the people you want to import to the event. Alternatively, you can copy and paste the email address manually.

Can users create their own agenda on Filo?

No, users can’t natively create their own schedule on Filo. Filo is a virtual event platform that should be used for events focused on collaboration such as workshops. It’s not advised to host large virtual conferences on Filo. For large virtual conferences, I recommend taking a look at Airmeet.
